In these lectures, the spotlight is on ceramic-ceramic composite materials characterized by macroscopically homogeneous structures, with a particular emphasis on particulate nanocomposite systems. To provide a comprehensive overview, next lectures are dedicated to discussing the synthesis methods of nanocomposite ceramic powders, underscoring the pivotal role of this manufacturing step in shaping the micro/nanostructural attributes of the composites and their subsequent properties. We will observe the structural characteristics of single-phase nanocrystalline ceramics and some composites followed by an exploration of nanostructured composites. The concluding lecture is dedicated to the practical route from the synthesis methods of nanocomposite ceramic powders, consolidation of nanocomposite, underscoring the pivotal role of this manufacturing step in shaping the micro/nanostructural attributes of the composites and their subsequent properties.

Lecturer:  Zgalat-Lozynskyy Ostap, Deputy director, Leading Researcher, Head of the Department of Thermomechanical Processing of Refractory Materials, Franzevich Institute of Materials Science Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Required knowledge:

knowledge of physics of continuous media, mechanics of materials, physical chemistry and materials science, obtained during the acquisition of a bachelor's or master’s degree.

The course is free of charge. After completing the course, all participants who complete the program and pass the test will receive certificates with ECTS credits (0.5 credits).

The course is a part of the BOOSTalent project. The BOOSTalent Project brings together an eight-partner consortium, comprised of five HEIs and three business partners, to enhance institutional innovation and entrepreneurship practices. With a vision for 2030, the consortium aims to foster innovation in AI and machine learning (ML) across HEIs, students, and businesses, particularly in the fields of aerospace, electronics, advanced materials, sustainability, and biodiversity. The consortium seeks to establish a long-term partnership between industry, academia, and government to develop cutting-edge education programmes, and address the climate crisis and wider sustainability issues. The Project aligns with the goals of the Deep Tech Talent Initiative, Climate-KIC, EIT Digital, and EIT Raw Materials, and supports their strategic aims.
