The next HEInnovate webinar will take place on Thursday, the 16th November at 5pm CET and will discuss how higher education can support the development of the schools of the future and smart education. The webinar will be moderated by Tatjana Guznajeva, Senior Consultant at Technopolis Group. Tatjana will be facilitating the discussion of our speakers:
- François Staring is an Analyst in the OECD’s Higher Education Policy Team. During the webinar, François will share key findings from the recent analytical work carried out by the OECD on how higher education can support the development of foundational competencies for innovation in secondary education. This will include key lessons on higher education support for schools to build their capacity for self-evaluation, critical inquiry and data analysis. The OECD’s work on higher education-school collaboration seeks to support international peer learning within an Education and Innovation Practice Community (EIPC). EIPC was established in late 2022 in cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (DG EAC) and examines higher education’s role in supporting the development of innovation competencies in school education, higher education, and adult upskilling and reskilling
- Eve Eisenschmidt (PhD) is a Professor of Educational Leadership in the School of Educational Sciences at Tallinn University, Estonia. She has published research on school improvement, teacher education, teacher leadership, collaborative school culture. Kätlin Vanari (MA) is a Junior Research Fellow in the School of Educational Sciences at Tallinn University. Her doctoral studies focus on goal setting, curriculum development and data-based decision making in school improvement. Eve and Kätlin have designed and been implementing the school-university partnership programme Future School in Estonia since 2017. The school improvement programme aims to create sustainable changes in the teaching and learning culture of schools by strengthening the school leaders‘ capabilities for distributed leadership, evidence-driven decision making and co-creation to improve students' learning. More than 100 school teams from different educational institutions have participated in the programme.
- Lien De Bie and Ine Windey will be introducing the imec Smart Education research programme. Lien is the programme manager of the imec Smart Education research programme and Ine is the team and research coordinator of the research group itec, an imec research group at KU Leuven, Belgium. In their presentation they will introduce the Smart Education Research Programme in the Flemish Community of Belgium. This government-funded initiative brings together expertise from industry and higher education to develop tailor-made and innovative educational technology (EdTech) solutions – in close collaboration with schools – to help schoolteachers and leaders tackle key challenges, and adopt teaching and assessment practices that support the development of new competency requirements in the curriculum e.g. computational thinking, self-regulated learning
