The first edition of the City Accelerator program for the city of Kyiv from ISE Group with the support of KAU and Academ.City took place

22 November 2024

On November 20, 2024, the KCSA hosted the graduation day of the City Accelerator acceleration program, implemented by ISE Corporate Accelerator at the request of the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) with the support of the Kyiv Academic University (KAU) and the Academ.City project.

The 16 startups presented their projects in the areas of energy efficiency and energy saving, housing and communal services, environmental initiatives, transportation and mobility, digital services, and smart urban infrastructure management.

The event was organized by ISE Corporate Accelerator from ISE Group as part of the City Target Program for Promoting the Development of Industry, Entrepreneurship and the Consumer Market for 2024-2025. This was announced by Valentyn Mondriyivskyi, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration:

“One of the city's key initiatives is to create its own startup accelerator. City Accelerator is a pilot program that brings together startups and Kyiv utilities to find modern technological solutions for urban infrastructure. Its main goal is to develop the architecture of a corporate accelerator focused on solving the problems of the capital's utilities.”

According to Olena Malytska, Director of ISE Group and Head of the City Accelerator program:

“The practice of creating urban accelerators is extremely successful in the United States, Israel and Europe. We have created a program where startups will be able to establish partnerships with utility companies, which will be mutually beneficial for both parties. For startups, this is a chance to find their first customers and make a big pilot with the city.”

During his speech, Valentyn Mondriyevsky mentioned his visit to Washington in September 2024.

“Meetings with representatives of the World Bank and other partners allow us to bring the best international practices to Kyiv. Today, we are already implementing projects on energy efficiency and digitalization of services in various sectors. Kyiv is the capital of innovation and startups. According to the StartupBlink ranking, Kyiv ranks 5th in terms of innovation ecosystem development in Eastern Europe. And we definitely want these startups that we have to be able to cooperate with the city and do joint pilots. We are implementing the best international practices of digitalization and innovation to make Kyiv a model of services for its citizens.”

The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Anatoliy Zavgorodniy emphasized the significant role of the KAU in organizing the accelerator.

Oleksandra Antoniuk, Academ.City Project Manager, spoke about the history of the park and the main goal of Academ.City:

“Science should work for the state, generate income, so that people enjoy the environment that our ecosystem creates, and that this ecosystem is for people first and foremost, so that everyone can realize themselves. We have to create a place and conditions for cooperation between science, business and the state.”
