On May 26, 2026, a professional development workshop entitled “Preparing Projects for Participation in International Grant Programmes” was held at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The event was organized by the International and Grant Support Office of the Kyiv Academic University in cooperation with the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of the Executive Body of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration), with the support of the EDIH Kyiv HiTech project, co-funded by the European Union under the Digital Europe Programme.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) departments to develop project proposals, attract international funding, and implement innovative solutions for urban development.

The event brought together representatives of KCSA departments, researchers, innovative startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The workshop was opened by representatives of the organizing institutions: Anatolii Bahan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development; Oleksandra Antoniuk, Vice-Rector of Kyiv Academic University; and Nataliia Harashchenko, Head of the Department of Innovation Management. In their opening remarks, the speakers emphasized the importance of local authorities’ participation in international grant programmes and highlighted the value of fostering cooperation between government, research institutions, and business.

During the presentation session, Oleksandra Pravdyva, Head of the International and Grant Support Office at Kyiv Academic University, introduced participants to the structure of European grant funding, current support programmes, open calls available for KCSA departments, and successful examples of international projects involving Ukrainian cities. Particular attention was paid to the eligibility conditions for Ukrainian organizations and opportunities for engaging international partners.

The practical part of the workshop focused on case-based learning. Participants worked on developing project ideas, explored approaches to building international consortia and identifying project partners, and examined key aspects of grant proposal preparation and evaluation criteria.

The workshop concluded with a discussion of practical challenges in project development and future opportunities for cooperation among public authorities, research institutions, and businesses in attracting international funding.

The event served as an important platform for knowledge exchange, professional capacity building, and the development of new partnerships essential for the successful participation of Kyiv-based organizations in international grant programmes.
