Dr. Oleksiy Milenin, Leading Researcher at the E.O. Paton Institute of Electric Welding of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Department of Mathematical Methods for the Study of Physical and Chemical Processes in Welding and Special Electrometallurgy, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Physics of Materials Science of the Kyiv Polytechnic University.

The purpose of the course is to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the processes of deformation and fracture of materials and structures, as well as to develop skills in analyzing and predicting physical and mechanical processes in structural materials under external influence. This course will allow you to expand your understanding of the fundamental principles of materials mechanics, study the processes of deformation of materials under loads and understand how these deformations affect the strength and performance of structures, and learn various methods for determining the strength and crack resistance of materials and structures, including laboratory tests and computational methods. This will help students develop the skills to analyze, design, and improve materials and structures, which are important for engineering, construction, aerospace, automotive, and many other industries.

Required knowledge

Basic knowledge of continuum mechanics, material resistance and general materials science

Acquired skills

understanding of physical and mechanical processes that determine the nature of deformation and fracture of materials;

knowledge of the peculiarities of deformation and fracture of typical materials of different classes;

skills in basic calculations of strength and performance of typical structures;

basic knowledge of how to use artificial intelligence methods to manage the integrity of critical structures and components.
